Doctors failing to diagnose young patients with colorectal cancer ...

Statistics suggest that colorectal cancer is one of the top three most commonly diagnosed cancers in the U.S. Colorectal cancer is also the second most fatal cancer amongst men and women. Fortunately, research efforts and improvements in technology over the past 20 years have made it easier for doctors in Illinois and throughout the entire U.S. to screen patients for colorectal cancer.

By taking certain precautions, doctors and patients can now prevent colorectal cancer from developing and spreading. However, not all doctors properly screen patients -- especially younger patients -- for colorectal cancer. The failure to screen a patient for colorectal cancer could result in a deadly misdiagnosis.

Although doctors know more about colorectal cancer and its symptoms and treatment options for patients from extensive research and medical studies, doctors cannot always rely on this research or past experiences with patients who were diagnosed with the disease when attempting to diagnose other patients who suffer from concerning health problems.

Colorectal cancer more commonly affects people who are 50 years old or older. However, newer research suggests that the cancer is starting to affect people who are much younger. Because many doctors don't think that a young adult can develop colorectal cancer, some young patients are not being diagnosed with colon or rectal cancer when they should be diagnosed with the disease.

Last month, the Colon Cancer Alliance held a conference to increase awareness of this issue amongst patients and doctors. Hopefully, doctors in Will County and throughout the entire U.S. will make sure that they properly screen younger patients who have symptoms of colorectal cancer.

Failing to diagnose young patients with colorectal cancer because doctors neglected to screen a patient for the cancer, despite warning signs, is a form of medical malpractice. This negligence could result in one's cancer spreading. In worst case scenarios, young patients might never have the option of receiving treatment that could have saved their lives.

Flood Damage Prevention | Right Way Restoration

http://www.rightwayrestoration.com

Anywhere it rains heavy for long periods of time, levees break, drainage systems are clogged or old and where there are hurricanes and tropical storms, flooding can result. Floods can happen anywhere and to any property. There are preparations that can help minimize the potential flood damage and speed up the damage recovery after a flood.

The first thing that?needs to be done is?to get flood insurance. After that, there are other preparations and preventive actions that?you can do?to lessen the losses in the home. Creating a file (flood file) with information on all of your possessions will help you and the insurance company if there is any flood damage. The insurance company can process the claim faster and you can get on with the damage recovery process. This ?flood file? should contain; a copy of the insurance policy with the companies phone number and any other important documents. It should also have a room by room inventory sheet of all your possessions. Photographs and video would?also greatly help with the documentation. Make sure the ?flood file? is kept in a secure waterproof container.

As with any prevention process there are preventive actions that can be done around the house to prepare?your home for a potential flood. If you have a sump pump ensure it is in working condition. Clean leaves and debris from downspouts and gutters. Make sure (especially if you are in a high risk zone) that the washer and dryer, furnace and water heater are on cement blocks. They should be?at least?one foot?above the elevated flood projection. Also, the electrical components need to be at least a foot above the elevated flood projection.

Developing a family emergency plan?is also a great idea to?help prepare for the possibility of a potential flood. Prepare a safety kit with drinking water, blankets, first aid kit, batteries, flashlight and a radio. Plan and practice your family flood evacuation routes and safe routes when on the road. Everyone in the home needs to know emergency phone numbers and have an out of state emergency family contact. If you have pets, they have to be considered too.

Educating yourself on flooding and flood risks will give you an idea of what kind of flood insurance you will need,?the extent?of flood preparations that need to be done to?your home and a better understanding of flood areas. Flood maps of all areas are made to show the high risk, moderate-to-low risk and the undetermined risk flood areas. High risk flood areas are most likely to flood with the right conditions. All this information will help you prepare, plan and make informed decisions on flood damage prevention and safety.

Verapan Reviews Hypnotherapy For ... - How To Have Self-confidence

Over the past year or so I have noticed that more and more people are really getting into self improvement and specificallyovercoming issues that have held them back for many years. It feels as if there is a quickening happening and people really feel the need to start stepping into their true potential. My attention was drawn to this mostly because I noticed a growing percentage of associates friends and family who would not normally be interested in self improvement begin the journey of looking within loving their selves and being honest enough to make real improvements. This caused me to reminisce about my turning point in which I began my own journey of self discovery and self help and I realized that it all began with developing my self confidence and self esteem.

Great Nutritional and Fitness Tips to Prevent and Combat Heart ...

How To Prevent and Combat Heart Diseases
Heart is also called THE ENGINE OF THE BODY. Usually, the heart pumps 100,000 times per day, 35 million times a year, 2.5 billion times in a lifetime. Human blood covers 19,000 km (11 806.0527 miles) every day. Each year, 17 million people are killed by cardiovascular diseases. This means that heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide.

According to Dr. Ioan Coman, from the Romanian Society of Cardiology, fats are those that cause most cardiovascular illnesses. It recommends as a first step, reducing consumption of saturated vegetable fat, which serve to reduce blood cholesterol.

World Health Organization advises us all to ensure that:

- The value of blood pressure is below 140/90 mmHg
- Weight does not exceed the limits of normality
- We are not addicted to cigarettes, in other words to give up smoking
- Cholesterol is below 190 mg / dl
- we're doing 30 minutes exercise per day
- we're reducing as much stress as possible.

Daily physical movement is a great way to prevent heart problems. Aerobic exercise, such as walking, swimming, jogging, cycling, provides better immunity against heart disease.

Also, another important factor is avoiding excessive alcohol consumption.

According to Dr. Ioan Coman, we must respect a few simple principles: balanced diet with a low consumption of salt and animal fats, exercise, avoid smoking or?excessive?alcohol drinking. Start with low consumption of saturated animal fat to protect your heart.

Saturated?animal?fats are also called bad fats, they are found in red meat, dairy products like butter, cream cheese, in pastry, biscuits. From eating these foods in high quantities results high cholesterol and cardiovascular illness.

Good fats, ?mono and polyunsaturated?vegetables, are effective elements that prevent heart disease. Poor fish, vegetable oils, spreadable margarine, ?peanuts, pistachios, seeds, are foods high in fats and unsaturated fatty acids Omega 3 and Omega 6, important for a healthy heart.

Royal Jelly and Honey

European Guidelines on Cardiovascular Disease Prevention urges us to stay away from fatty meats, fats, butter, sugar, oil produced by hot pressing, white bread, salt, pepper, paprika, ginger, marjoram or curry.

If you suffer from any heart disease, make sure every day to eat foods rich in fiber, fatty acids, vitamin K and magnesium. Do not forget to physical and breathing exercises, which also serve to prevent heart diseases.

If you're heart these elements are important for you: cold-pressed oil, apricot seed, soya beans, whole grains, apples, peaches, underbrush, lemon, rosehip, grapefruit, nettle, grape tomatoes, parsley, lovage, celery garlic, fennel, cumin, rosemary, cinnamon and fish, especially ocean fish that are high in omega 3.

You can also enjoy if you want a pasteurized milk or cream, only if they're raw, because they lose their nutritional value.

Eat daily a raw yolk, it contains lecithin, essential for proper removal of cholesterol.

Royal jelly is just extraordinary, to tone the heart, prevents nervous asthenia, fatigue and hepatitis. Help eradicate tuberculosis or cirrhosis.

Honey is a true wonder. Improves heart muscle, reduces fatigue and heart pain. Eat a spoonful of honey diluted in tea made of hawthorn or pigweed. And after two hours you can dine.

The Best Herbs for Teas - They Prevent or Treat Cardiovascular Disease:

- Hawthorn tea is recommended for affections of nervous origin, arrhythmias, angina pectoris, arteriosclerosis, hypertension, oscillating voltage;

- Plantain is able to clean the circulatory system. Is very effective in case of diseases like atherosclerosis or hypercholesterolemia;

- Dandelion root and leaves, stimulates blood circulation;

- Sheperd's purse, improves blood pressure;

- Pigweed, get rid of pain and tachycardia;

- Mistletoe, for not to become toxic, make a cold maceration of an infinitesimal amount. It is very effective against hypertension, atherosclerosis and blood circulation problems;

- Black currant, for lower blood pressure, is also atherosclerotic and diuretic;

- Horsetail has a high level of minerals such as silica or potassium.

Massive data for miniscule communities

EAST LANSING, Mich. It's relatively easy to collect massive amounts of data on microbes. But the files are so large that it takes days to simply transmit them to other researchers and months to analyze once they are received.

Researchers at Michigan State University have developed a new computational technique, featured in the current issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, that relieves the logjam that these "big data" issues create.

Microbial communities living in soil or the ocean are quite complicated. Their genomic data is easy enough to collect, but their data sets are so big that they actually overwhelm today's computers. C. Titus Brown, MSU assistant professor in bioinformatics, demonstrates a general technique that can be applied on most microbial communities.

The interesting twist is that the team created a solution using small computers, a novel approach considering most bioinformatics research focuses on supercomputers, Brown said.

"To thoroughly examine a gram of soil, we need to generate about 50 terabases of genomic sequence about 1,000 times more data than generated for the initial human genome project," said Brown, who co-authored on the paper with Jim Tiedje, University Distinguished professor of microbiology and molecular genetics. "That would take about 50 laptops to store that much data. Our paper shows the way to make it work on a much smaller scale."

Analyzing DNA data using traditional computing methods is like trying to eat a large pizza in a single bite. The huge influx of data bogs down computers' memory and causes them to choke. The new method employs a filter that folds the pizza up compactly using a special data structure. This allows computers to nibble at slices of the data and eventually digest the entire sequence. This technique creates a 40-fold decrease in memory requirements, allowing scientists to plow through reams of data without using a supercomputer.

Brown and Tiedje will continue to pursue this line of research, and they are encouraging others to improve upon it as well. The researchers made the complete source code and the ancillary software available to the public to encourage extension.

"We want this program to continue to evolve and improve," Brown said. "In fact, it already has. Other researchers have taken our approach in a new direction and made a better genome assembler."

Hey, Guys! NEVER Forget Your Wedding Anniversary! ? Larry ...

I hear it all the time, husbands getting in trouble because they?re forgotten their wedding anniversary. Women love to be shown that their husbands remembered their special day. One way husbands can achieve this is to do things that make sure that they do not forget their wedding anniversary.

anniversaryForgetting a wedding anniversary can be devastating for both the husband and the wife and it could happen to anyone. We all know someone who has made this mistake. Never let it happen again! It is much easier to avoid the mistake than to repair the damage.

Dr. Herb Goldberg, a Psychologist and author of ?What Men Still Don?t Know About Women, Relationships, and Love? and ?What Men Really Want? suggests that men forget important dates like birthdays and anniversaries because they are wired to focus on the external threats and pressures of the world outside of their ?safe? relationships.

Dr. Goldberg notes that many men have excellent memories of these important dates in the early days of the relationship while they are still focused on winning their partners affection but as time passes their attention moves away to new challenges and they may forget what was once so easy and natural to remember.

That?s great, but it is hardly a good excuse to forget the day you married your sweetheart. We need to treat this problem as a serious blind-spot in men. An anniversary date is important stuff! The key to remembering wedding anniversaries and other important dates is to provide visual reminders of the event.

Here are a few ways that will help you to never have to spend another wedding anniversary in the spare bedroom, on the sofa or in the doghouse again.

? Change the password to one of your most frequently visited Websites to the date of your anniversary
? Use the Google Calender do this for free
? Set an alarm or calender on your cell phone, PDA, and iPad
? Marry your girlfriend on your birthday
? Mark your wedding anniversary in your daily planner
? Embroider your anniversary date on a pillow
? Combine a calendar with a highlighter to color-coordinate your anniversary date
? Design and engrave your anniversary date on a key chain or bracelet
? Arrange to have a close friend send you a reminder at least 2 weeks before your anniversary
? Get married on Valentine?s Day
? Make a ?Special Dates Reminder? frame ?>
? Design your own calendar with a wedding photo and your anniversary date on the month of your wedding
? Get a tattoo and put it someplace where it doesn?t show in public but a place that you see everyday ;-)

The best way to celebrate a wedding anniversary is to plan for it beforehand. In addition to the reminders on the actual day of your anniversary, do everything above the same way but schedule it for a month in advance, the first day of the calendar month, a week in advance and three days in advance. This way, you will be receiving prompts all the way up to your anniversary. In other words, ?Plan Ahead!?

Some suggest engraving your anniversary date on the inside of your wedding ring. Not the best idea. It probably only works if you remember to take your ring off and look at the date. You may want to engrave both rings on the date of your first anniversary.

Some online anniversary reminder services will let you log the anniversary date and will send you an e-mail reminder about a week or two before your anniversary. Click here or here!

Remembering to send an anniversary card has never been easier, thanks to companies that offer paper, personalized greeting cards online. Companies like enGreet allow husbands and wives to select a card, personalize it and send it out on a scheduled date for a fee similar to buying a card in a store.
