Fresh Android Apps for Feb. 28: Squats Pro, Meltdown on Mars THD, Parking Frenzy 2.0 (Appolicious)

Welcome to the end of the month. Oh, that?s right, it?s a leap year which means you have one extra day this month to download some fresh Android apps. Get in shape with Squats Pro, fight to live with Meltdown on Mars THD, and practice the Y-Turn with Parking Frenzy 2.0.

Take your Android to the gym with you. With apps like this, it will help you stay on track and may even pump you up.

This app aims to increase your abilities to do squats and provides a personalized plan with sets and repetitions to get you there. Hold your Android in your hands as you drop and the app will use your device?s sensors to count for you. It?s the latest in a series of exercise apps from NorthPark that includes Push Ups, Pull Ups, and Sit Ups. The apps share information that shows your progress across the group.

One is the loneliest number! You play the last survivor of a bustling Mars colony that has been overrun by huge alien bugs. You have only one mission: stay alive long enough to get off planet or until a rescue team arrives.

Fortunately, you have some serious weapons at the ready and, as you slaughter the bugs, you earn more points with which to buy automatic gun turrets, mines, barricades and other over-powered defenses. Use the landscape to your advantage by leading the aliens down tight alleys and into corners so that you can blow them away. Don?t forget your Tegra-based tablet because that?s what the app was designed to run on.

And you thought the test for your driver?s license was tough. Unlike your standard racing game, this game focuses on stopping and, specifically, parking your car. Sounds easy except that you?ll find many challenges like yellow construction cones, traffic, one-way streets and other cars that want your spot.

On screen controls for steering, forward and reverse, and gas pedal work like a real car. Make a mistake ? like hitting a barrier ? and you?ll damage your vehicle and lose points. Park perfectly and you can level up through 16 stages. But, the reviews say you?ll be left wanting more.

Nokia Lumia 900 in white hands-on

What can we say, white sets are somehow more pleasant to behold than the typical black slabs we see. Nokia's glossy N900 is no exception; in fact we're all in a heated debate about exactly which color we'd choose and which theme makes it look best. Device color aside, there's nothing new here, but we know we'd be breaking hearts if we didn't get all close and personal with the only color we've not had a chance to play with. Gallery is just past the break -- but for the record, dark theme with blue tiles looks so sharp.

Lenovo C325 all-in-one review - Computers|Gadgets|Games N ...

The all-in-one form factor presents an attractive use case: it required much of the identical external setup as a desktop, but uses laptop parts quite often and has the identical resistance to expansion. Probably the most obviously attractive quality of the all-in-one is that it makes it possible for comfortable desktop-style use while being ?easy? ? just plug in a mouse and keyboard and you?re good to head. With the iMac occupying the head end and diverse HP and Lenovo consumer models grabbing space slightly below, there?s room for an extremely low-cost option: Lenovo?s $599 C325.

Lenovo C325 all-in-one review

Hardware

As far because the hardware goes, the C325 is an efficient-looking if not overly showy model. A mostly plastic casing is accented by a whole metal base, helping to maintain the considerable weight of the screen and components in check. Much to my surprise, the glossy case contrasts with a matte LCD screen ? a undeniable boon to people who operate in bright offices or homes. The 1600?900 resolution is appreciated, and never often seen in a 20-inch panel ? though the much-advertised multi-touch option doesn?t appear to be available yet.

Under the metaphorical hood lies The AMD E-450, a dual-core 1.65Ghz processor that needs to handle the normal web browsing, email, and light-weight media of nearly all of business and consumer users, but would be ill-suited for advanced tasks. Ditto for the 4GB (8GB maximum) of DDR3 memory and Radeon HD 6320 integrated graphics. Our base configuration review unit came with a 500GB harddrive, but you will get a full?terabyte?if you spring for the upgrade. a traditional DVD-RW drive at the right side of the integrated rounds out the key components.

Lenovo C325 all-in-one review

On the best side, a couple of USB 3.0 ports flank the microphone and headphone jacks, below a 6-in-1 memory card reader. Round the back are four more standard USB 2.0 ports and an old-school Ethernet port. The b/g/n WiFi module isn?t accessible, however the hard disk and memory bays are ? with room for an entire-size 3.5-inch SATA drive and an empty RAM DIMM slot for simple upgrades. There is no approach to output to an external monitor, but there is a connection for an optional TV tuner.?All that?s left at the front are the sizeable front-facing speakers, a slightly puny .3 megapixel webcam and the ability button an monitor controls. A basic wired mouse and keyboard are included -?serviceable, if not?extraordinary. Considering the integrated nature of all-in-one, wireless inputs would had been nice.

Lenovo C325 all-in-one review

The whole package is basically exactly what you?d expect from an entry-level all-in-one: not more and mo less. Hardware highlights are the high-resolution screen (to any extent further can be overkill, any less can be annoying) and simply accessible storage and memory. i am not keen on the glossy plastic, and a height-adjustable stand would were useful ? the steel base only pivots the unit about 25 degrees.

Software

The C325 packs in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. For the bottom unit it doesn?t do much, since there?s only 3.5 gigabytes of obtainable memory when combined with the integrated graphics. But when you ever intend to upgrade or simply spring for more RAM on the get-go, it is a useful extension. There is no restore or OS disc, but you do get a CD of drivers for troubleshooting without an online connection.

Lenovo C325 all-in-one review

An unfortunate reality of low-priced PCs is that manufacturers will attempt to up the profit margin with software pack-ins. The C325 is best than most on this respect, something i will happily say about Lenovo machines normally. Other than drivers and assorted Lenovo pack-ins, there?s McAfee anti-virus, an ordeal install of Microsoft Office and Windows Live Essentials. One pre-install I do appreciate is Google Chrome ? always nice to peer manufacturers that recognize that Internet Explorer isn?t an option for many power users. Too bad that they had to throw within the Google Toolbar to ?sweeten? the deal.

The all-in-one specifications won?t let it do high-end gaming or media creation, but heavy browsing sessions, massive email databases and iTunes (the bane of Windows performance fanatics everywhere) work without complaint. AMD?s E-series is worlds?better?than Atom-class processors, but still not as snappy as even the low end of Intel?s Core series.

Performance

As indicated above, the C325 isn?t fitted to heavy-duty tasks ? but then it is not really meant to be. Having said that, just a little more oomph from the CPU would were appreciated; this all-in-one would be outpaced by the typical ultrabook.?If all you want to do with an all-in-one is browsing and a few light media playback, it?s going to fit your needs just fine. If you are searching for gaming, graphics or other high-end tasks, look elsewhere.

Lenovo C325 all-in-one review

The real?equation?you ought to wonder is that this: do i need a desktop that sacrifices size for expandability? For $600 you will get a fine looking decent laptop in recent times, and you?ll discover a more powerful desktop for a lot less. For the few usage cases where an all-in-one is right, the C325 fits the bill as a low-budget option. But are you able to find a type of cases where a laptop or standard desktop wouldn?t fit better??Perhaps the equation will be changed with the addition of a top quality multi-touch panel, but even then, usability ? not utility ? may be the primary bonus.

Wrap Up

As a low-cost entry within the all-in-one world, the Lenovo C325 is solid. Pluses include good fit and finish and simply upgradeable memory and storage, with a high-quality matte screen. The drawback is that there is just not enough processing power for intensive tasks. With 4GB or more of memory multi-tasking?shouldn?t?be problem, but the rest would be an ordeal for this machine.

Lenovo C325 all-in-one review

For basic terminals or a light-weight communal home computer, the C325 is a great choice, especially with upgraded memory and storage. But for those that need more performance or simply can?t discover a more than enough reason to bask in the shape factor, a standard desktop will serve better at a lower cost, while a laptop will do for portability.

Oscar Winners: 20 Years Of Best Picture Box-Office Rankings

We take a look at what taking home Sunday's big prize could do for this year's Best Picture winner.
By MTV News staff

If the 2012 Oscars unfold as expected Sunday night, "The Artist" will walk away with a Best Picture win at the close of the ceremony. With that triumph, the silent, black-and-white film will become the second lowest-growing Best Picture winner in modern history. A populist fave, this movie is not.

And that's often the case. While box-office record-breaker "Titanic" took home the Academy's top honor in 1998, the Best Picture ranks are littered with ho-hum performers. Some, like "Schindler's List" and "Million Dollar Baby," received huge bumps from their wins. "The Silence of the Lambs," which hit theaters in February 1991, received no bump at all, as it was already out of theaters. Yet others received small re-releases and added a few million to their totals.

To put the likely "Artist" win in historical context, MTV News took a look back at the past 20 years of Best Picture winners, ranking them from lowest to highest grossing (all figures come from Box Office Mojo and are not adjusted for inflation or ticket price).

Could global warming turn us all into hobbits?

A study of prehistoric horses has found that rising temperatures tend to make mammals shrink. Does that apply to humans too??

It's been long known that the Earth's rising surface temperatures portend mass extinction,?prolonged droughts, extreme weather, and rising seas. Now we can add a new worry: Humanity could be?transformed into a race of hobbits.

New research reveals the extent to which global temperatures can influence the evolution of the size of mammals. Hot weather tends to make them smaller, and cold weather tends to make them grow.

About 56 million years ago, our planet underwent a major temperature swing. Nobody knows what initially caused it ? conjectures include volcanic activity, a comet impact, a sudden release of methane from the ocean, and natural variations in the Earth's orbit ? but we know that, over a period of about 175,000 years, temperatures increased?9 to 18 degrees Fahrenheit, and then suddenly dropped.?

During this time, an equine creature roamed the forests in what is now Wyoming's Bighorn Basin.?Sifrhippus sandrae, the earliest known horse, doesn't look much like today's horses. For one thing, it weighed only 12 pounds or so and was roughly the size of a small dog.?

And it was destined to get even smaller. A study of?Sifrhippus molars unearthed in Wyoming and kept at the Florida Museum of Natural History at the University of Florida in Gainesville found that the animals shrunk to about eight pounds over the first 130,000 years of warming, and then shot back up to 15 pounds during the next 45,000 years as the planet cooled again.

The researchers ruled out atmospheric pressure and aridity, and the animal's diet, and concluded that temperature was causing the species' rapid shrinkage and growth.?"This, for the first time, tells us that temperature is what's driving the body size evolution for these horses," said the University of Florida's Jonathan Bloch, who co-authored the?study, in an interview with LiveScience.

These findings, which were published Thursday in the journal Science, are consistent with Bergmann's rule, an ecological principle, first proposed by German naturalist Christian Bergmann in 1847, that animals of a given species tend to be smaller in hotter climates. Bergmann's rule holds for about three-quarters of all mammals.

But does that include us? Anthropologists have found that Arctic populations such as the Inuit, Aleut, and Sami peoples, tend, on average, to be heavier than people living closer to the equator. But there are many exceptions to this tendency.?

So what is the?likelihood?that our species will transform into?pint-sized, hairy-footed halflings?who, say, favor a quiet bucolic lifestyle yet are nonetheless capable of acts great courage? Probably not that great: As anyone who has walked into a door frame built by our forbears can attest, humans have been getting taller lately. But even if we did wind up with having the stature of Frodo and Samwise, it wouldn't be so bad. Adapting to a changing environment is certainly better than the alternative. ?

Data Backup System Toronto |Disaster Recovery Small Business ?

Home ? Blogs, Events, Surveys, Uncategorized

A backup system and disaster recovery plan is ESSENTIAL for every business.

If you think ?data backup? is synonymous with ?disaster recovery? and aren?t sure what ?business continuity? means, you?re not alone. Most of the business owners we talk to make the mistake of not knowing the difference and end up paying the price when data is lost, a network goes down or a disaster prevents them from accessing their physical office and the server inside.

?First, data backup simply means a copy of your data is replicated to another device or location. Tape drives, offsite backup and even USB devices provide data backup.? Data backup is obviously important. However, the more important consideration is whether or not your backup solution provides easy disaster recovery, or the ability for you to recover all your files, software and functionality quickly, easily and without corruption.? For example, if your server died, you wouldn?t be able to quickly get back to work if you only had file-level backup. In order for you to start working again, your server would need to be replaced, all software re-installed, data re-installed and then the whole system would need to be configured with your settings and preferences. This process could take hours or even days ? and that?s if you have all your software licenses and a clean copy of your data.

Then there?s business continuity. This is the ability for your business to continue to operate even after a major disaster. For example, if you ran a law firm and your building burned to the ground, you?d be out of business if all your files were on the server only. However, if you had your network in the cloud, your employees could continue to work from home or some other location, giving your business continuity.

Of course, you need all three at some level. At a minimum you need to make sure you have in place the right backup and disaster recovery plan for your tolerance for downtime, and a plan for how your business could continue to operate if you could no longer access your building, server or data. You should review your plan annually. If you want a simple and easy way to get all of this handled, give us a call! We specialize in planning, implementing and managing these projects so you don?t have to.

Will Obama's Koran-burning apology satisfy Afghans? (The Week)

[unable to retrieve full-text content]The Week - The president says he's sorry about the U.S. military's "inadvertent" burning of Korans, which has already sparked violence claiming the lives of two U.S. soldiersAs violent anti-U.S. protests spread in Afghanistan this week, President Obama sent a letter to Afghan President Hamid Karzai apologizing for the unintentional burning of Korans by the U.S. military at Bagram Air Base. The Taliban argued that any U.S. expressions of regret were "mere slogans," and the Islamist militants urged Afghans to attack foreign military installations in "defense of our holy book." Angry crowds hurled rocks at several NATO bases, and a man in an Afghan military uniform reportedly shot and killed two U.S. soldiers. Will Obama's apology quell the uproar?

Michael Fauntroy: A Bigger Threat to Our Democracy Than Citizens United

Citizens United, the 2010 U.S. Supreme Court decision that allowed unlimited corporate spending in American federal elections, has created a political firestorm on the political Left as the specter of even more money influencing elections and empowering the rich at the expense of the poor. The outrage, while legitimate, reveals a weakness in our politics that obfuscates similarly important problems: we tend to focus on new problems and ignore continuing ones. I believe that Citizens United was a disastrous ruling that only consolidates electoral, political, and policy power into the hands of America's plutocrats; they, of course, will use this power to continue the subjugation of the poor. The truth, however, is that big money is an after-the-fact concern that pales in comparison to congressional redistricting in terms of impact and perversion of the political system. This decennial exercise, akin to a gentlemens agreement to divide the states between the Democratic and Republican political cartels, is a far bigger threat to our democracy that the money that flows into our elections.

We have little real choice in our elections. Even with low double digit congressional approval ratings, my guess is that at least 80 percent of House incumbents seeking reelection will win. Here is a number that should open some eyes: 95 percent of all House members who sought reelection between 1982 through 2004 were reelected. Expanding the time horizon changes the numbers but not their effect. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, between 1964 and 2010, the incumbent in the House was reelected between 85 percent and 98 percent of the time; the majority of those election cycles resulted in incumbent reelection rates of at least 90 percent. Those are Kim Jung Il and Robert Mugabe numbers that legitimately call into question the fundamental tenet of American democracy: the use of elections express the representative will of the people. A system with historically low approval ratings for Congress yet ridiculously high reelection rates cannot be seen as an accurate reflection of voter will.

As a candidate, having all the money in the world won't matter much if the district in which you run is ideologically different from your politics. Similarly, eliminating big money from politics won't matter if there is an ideological mismatch in the district. The policy consequences that stem from illegitimate political power have long compromised the American political system. Concerned activists and pundits must pay more attention to this critical issue.

Mohammed el-Sioufi, an accountant and vice president of the Islamic Culture Center, a mosque in Newark, is interviewed by the Associated Press about the New York Police Department's surveillance of the Muslim community in Newark, N.J., Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012. Americans in New Jersey?s largest city were subjected to surveillance as part of the New York Police Department?s effort to build databases of where Muslims work, shop and pray. (AP) ? Americans living and working in New Jersey's largest city were subjected to surveillance as part of the New York Police Department's effort to build databases of where Muslims work, shop and pray. The operation in Newark was so secretive even the city's mayor says he was kept in the dark.

For months in mid-2007, plainclothes officers from the NYPD's Demographics Units fanned out across Newark, taking pictures and eavesdropping on conversations inside businesses owned or frequented by Muslims.

The result was a 60-page report, obtained by The Associated Press, containing brief summaries of businesses and their clientele. Police also photographed and mapped 16 mosques, listing them as "Islamic Religious Institutions."

The report cited no evidence of terrorism or criminal behavior. It was a guide to Newark's Muslims.

According to the report, the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Newark Police Department, which at the time was run by a former high-ranking NYPD official. But Newark's mayor, Cory Booker, said he never authorized the spying and was never told about it.

"Wow," he said as the AP laid out the details of the report. "This raises a number of concerns. It's just very, very sobering."

Police conducted similar operations outside their jurisdiction in New York's Suffolk and Nassau counties on suburban Long Island, according to police records.

Such surveillance has become commonplace in New York City in the decade since the 2001 terrorist attacks. Police have built databases showing where Muslims live, where they buy groceries, even what Internet cafes they use and where they watch sports. Dozens of mosques and student groups have been infiltrated and police have built detailed profiles of ethnic communities, from Moroccans to Egyptians to Albanians.

The documents obtained by the AP show, for the first time in any detail, how those efforts stretched outside the NYPD's jurisdiction. New Jersey and Long Island residents had no reason to suspect the NYPD was watching them. And since the NYPD isn't accountable to their votes or tax dollars, those non-New Yorkers had little recourse to stop it.

"All of these are innocent people," Nagiba el-Sioufi of Newark said while her husband, Mohammed, flipped through the NYPD report, looking at photos of mosques and storefronts frequented by their friends.

Egyptian immigrants and American citizens, the couple raised two daughters in the United States. Mohammed works as an accountant and is vice president of the Islamic Culture Center, a mosque a few blocks from Newark City Hall.

"If you have an accusation on us, then spend the money on doing this to us," Nagiba said. "But you have no accusation."

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne did not return a message seeking comment about the report. Former Newark Police Chief Garry McCarthy, who is now in charge of the Chicago Police Department, also did not return messages left on his cellphone and with a press aide.

The goal of the report, like others the Demographics Unit compiled, was to give police at-their-fingertips access to information about Muslim neighborhoods. If police got a tip about an Egyptian terrorist in the area, for instance, they wanted to immediately know where he was likely to find a cheap room to rent, where he might buy his lunch and at what mosque he probably would attend Friday prayers.

"These locations provide the maximum ability to assess the general opinions and general activity of these communities," the Newark report said.

The effect of the program was that hundreds of American citizens were cataloged ? sometimes by name, sometimes simply by their businesses and their ethnicity ? in secret police files that spanned hundreds of pages:

? "A Black Muslim male named Mussa was working in the rear of store," an NYPD detective wrote after a clandestine visit to a dollar store in Shirley, N.Y., on Long Island.

? "The manager of this restaurant is an Indian Muslim male named Vicky Amin" was the report back from an Indian restaurant in Lindenhurst, N.Y., also on Long Island.

? "Owned and operated by an African Muslim (possibly Sudanese) male named Abdullah Ddita" was the summary from another dollar store in Shirley, N.Y., just off the highway on the way to the Hamptons, the wealthy Long Island getaway.

In one report, an officer describes how he put people at ease by speaking in Punjabi and Urdu, languages commonly spoken in Pakistan.

Last summer, when the AP first began reporting about the NYPD's surveillance efforts, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said his police do not consider religion in their policing.

On Tuesday, following an AP story that showed the NYPD monitored Muslim student groups around the Northeast, school leaders including Yale president Richard Levin expressed outrage over the tactics. Bloomberg fired back in what was the most vigorous defense yet of his department.

"The police department goes where there are allegations. And they look to see whether those allegations are true," he told reporters. "That's what you'd expect them to do. That's what you'd want them to do. Remind yourself when you turn out the light tonight."

There are no allegations of terrorism in the Demographics Unit reports and the documents make clear that police were only interested in locations frequented by Muslims. The canvas of businesses in Newark mentions Islam and Muslims 27 times. In one section of the report, police wrote that the largest immigrant groups in Newark were from Portugal and Brazil. But they did not photograph businesses or churches for those groups.

"No Muslim component within these communities was identified," police wrote, except for one business owned by a Brazilian Muslim of Palestinian descent.

Polls show that most New Yorkers strongly support the NYPD's counterterrorism efforts and don't believe police unfairly target Muslims. The Muslim community, however, has called for Police Commissioner Ray Kelly's resignation over the spying and the department's screening of a video that portrays Muslims as wanting to dominate the United States.

In Newark, the report was met with a mixture of confusion and anger.

"Come, look at yourself on film," Abdul Kareem Abdullah called to his wife as he flipped through the NYPD files at the lunch counter of their restaurant, Hamidah's Cafe.

An American-born citizen who converted to Islam decades ago, Abdullah said he understands why, after the 9/11 terror attacks, people are afraid of Muslims. But he said he wishes the police would stop by, say hello, meet him and his customers and get to know them. The documents show police have no interest in that, he said.

"They just want to keep tabs on us," he said. "If they really wanted to understand, they'd come talk to us."

After the AP approached Booker, he said the mayor's office had launched an investigation.

"We're going to get to the bottom of this," he said.

Booker met with Islamic leaders while campaigning for mayor. Those interviewed by the AP said they wanted to believe he didn't authorize the spying but wanted to hear from him directly.

"I have to look in his eyes," Mohammed el-Sioufi said at his mosque. "I know him. I met him. He was here."

Ironically, because officers conducted the operation covertly, the reports contain mistakes that could have been easily corrected had the officers talked to store owners or imams. If police ever had to rely on the database during an unfolding terrorism emergency as they had planned, those errors would have hindered their efforts.

For instance, locals said several businesses identified as belonging to African-American Muslims actually were owned by Afghans or Pakistanis. El-Sioufi's mosque is listed as an African-American mosque, but he said the imam is from Egypt and the congregation is a roughly even mix of black converts and people of foreign ancestries.

"We're not trying to hide anything. We are out in the open," said Abdul A. Muhammad, the imam of the Masjid Ali Muslim mosque in Newark. "You want to come in? We have an open door policy."

By choosing instead to conduct such widespread surveillance, Mohammed el-Sioufi said, police send the message that the whole community is suspect.

"When you spy on someone, you are kind of accusing them. You are not accepting them for choosing Islam," Nagiba el-Sioufi said. "This doesn't say, 'This guy did something wrong.' This says, 'Everyone here is a Muslim.'"

"It makes you feel uncomfortable, like this is not your country," she added. "This is our country."

Colorectal Cancer Screening: Which Test Is Best? | ACS Pressroom ...

It is widely accepted that the best way to determine whether screening can reduce deaths from cancer is with a randomized controlled trial (RCT), where half of a large group of people are invited to get a screening test, and scientists measure whether their risk of death is decreased compared to the half who did not receive an invitation to get screened. When it comes to colorectal cancer, we have that kind of evidence for fecal occult blood testing (FOBT, or stool testing) and for flexible sigmoidoscopy. But there has never been an RCT for colonoscopy, although several are now underway. The evidence supporting the value of colonoscopy has largely been based on inference.

A pair of new studies in this week?s New England Journal of Medicine provide new evidence supporting the value of colonoscopy in reducing colorectal cancer deaths, principally as a result of the detection and removal of precancerous polyps. We asked Robert A. Smith, PhD, director of cancer screening to comment on the significance of the new data.

?A persistent question related to colorectal cancer screening has been, ?which test is best?? The American Cancer Society colorectal cancer screening guidelines currently endorse seven different screening tests, including three stool tests, two endoscopic tests, and two radiographic tests. Each has been shown to be effective, but it is difficult to say one test is better than the other.

?The most recent ACS guidelines prioritize colorectal cancer screening tests that are more likely to identify adenomatous polyps, which are known precursors of colorectal cancer. Tests that visualize the colon, i.e., endoscopic tests and radiographic tests are more likely to detect polyps compared with stool tests.

?Two studies in this week?s New England Journal of Medicine help fill in some blanks. The first, by Zauber and colleagues at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, finds that removing pre-cancerous polyps during colonoscopy ultimately resulted in reduced colorectal cancer incidence, and eventually 53% fewer colorectal cancer deaths compared with the expected death rate in the general population. Yet, modeling data show that what colonoscopy achieves in one visit, high sensitivity stool tests, such as the fecal immunochemical test (FIT), have a good chance of achieving with annual testing over a ten year period.

?Actual empirical data is preferable to modeling data, and the initial results from a prospective randomized trial in Spain in the same issue of the journal holds the promise of eventually providing a prospective comparison of colonoscopy and high sensitivity stool testing. In this study, one-time colonoscopy is being compared to receiving FIT every two years in a population of 53,000 adults ages 50-69. In the first round of screening, the rate of colorectal cancer detection was higher in the colonoscopy group compared with the FIT group, and the rate of advanced adenoma detection was twice as high. This is expected since test-sensitivity is higher in colonoscopy compared with stool testing. As the study proceeds, we would expect the FIT group to ?catch up,? and if our models have been correct, the performance of the two tests over a 10 year period should become more similar. The success of this head-to-head study depends on making sure the study?s participants continue getting biennial FIT testing, something rarely achieved outside of a study. Longer follow-up likely will be needed in the first study, as well, to measure whether the lifesaving benefits of removing precancerous polyps will persist.

?In an editorial accompanying the studies, independent scientists suggest that colonoscopy could be used to help determine an individual person?s risk, based on the presence or absence of polyps at an initial screening at age 60. The idea of hybrid screening, where adults of different genders and different risks begin and end screening at different ages and are screened with different technologies based on risk is not a new idea, but this idea is still in its infancy, so we?re a long ways from proposing a practical alternative to the current guidelines which recommend that average risk adults begin screening at age 50 with either colonoscopy every 10 years, or annual high-sensitivity stool tests.?

Commercial Finance ? Commercial Hire Buy

Privately funded, often called ?hard money? commercial mortgage loans typically carry annual interest rates of more than 10% and charge origination points of 2%-4%. Hard money lenders can make on-the-spot decisions and can close fast.

Exclusive: How California's ObamaRail Will Destroy One Family's ...

Through facebook I have been sent some information that details just how damaging the ObamaRail will be to one particular family in Hanford, California. Here is what was sent to me:

Since the state and feds under the directions of the governor and president are pushing the high speed rail committee to proceed at all costs regardless of the lawsuits as this project will go forward ? and Fresno is wanting the bag-of-wind promise of jobs regardless of the number to be lost and revenue with it from destroying businesses, homes and property. So Kings County will be forced to sell property and the land acquisition is going on as I speak. We are in line with the high speed rail for which they are only paying for the actual land that they use and it is pennies on the dollar with the arrogant statement that we can to donate to the project. No one knows the exact footage as the determining committee has not released it projected latest plan yet but will shortly and there is 45 days to contest it. The land owners in our beautiful area are angry ? and most don?t even know their land is involved. They have changed their tactics from we were very nice in the beginning to ?we want to help you understand this project? ? They could not be trusted the first time and definitely not the 2nd time. So next Sabbath there is a workshop by a secured by the committee fighting in Kings County an attorney and land appraiser to tell what to do to prepare for the one time only opportunity to deal with these not so nice folks. Power is dangerous as they being to act in dangerous ways to control as they think they are God?s to whom no one can hold them accountable and force control with severe results for not complying. God?s true character is one of choice ? no of fear and timidity but of sound mind and courage with purpose. So we will need to secure the services of a land appraiser and that of an attorney for which we shake at the where to pay for the expense. But ? we must prepare as we are hit at this projected plan on 2 fronts ? the rail right beside the house or into it or the neighbors and the front and only entrance into the property and our well for the over pass. I choose to stay focused on our Heavenly Father for he has promised to never leave us nor forsake us. The remainder of the land will not be accessible at there is a First Baptist church on one side and orchards on the other sides. Where will we go as the land will not be saleable and the cost of a new well is prohibitive. This is all planned by the Governor/President in the socialism plan to idle 1.3 million acres of Calif. Central Valley from water and move everyone into little city clusters of compact houses of tiny lots and to drive the last week mandated Calif. EPA electric cars that we are force to pay with the gas increase and move only by rail to cut the global warming. The devil is working over time in the short remaining time he has to destroy a many people and woo them to his cause that God is not fair. This is all part of the grand scheme and I choice to trust my Heavenly Father for He knows best and provides the strength and wisdom. Kings County will be destroyed. But the Governor and many other like the environmentalists do not like our area as we did not vote for him and continue to work against his schemes and unions and for the most part are conservative and depend on God while acting with integrity and accountability. With in the last year after seeing ?Forks Over Knives? and Dr. Barnard?s DVD ?Kick Start to Health?, we have gone vegan after ( deleted), was prescribed a statin for (deleted) climbing cholesterol. (deleted), was so upset that (deleted) decided the big block of cheese from Costco had to go along with the other animal products. Results: (deleted) cholesterol dropped from 225 to 172 in just 3 1/2 months. (deleted) has the experience of having severely effected members with milk intolerance from birth. But (deleted) was blistfully ignorant that (deleted) also had the problem until (deleted) stopped all dairy products and the headaches went away along with the arthritic pains. However, I will fight to the end for the dairy farmers in our area to be able to have the freedom to have their acreages, dairies and feed lots in the land of freedom while others are seeking to destroy the acreages, animals and equipment as the methane gas of cows is the worst pollutant so named by those ?ignorant professors and intellectuals of high learning institutions? of this state who have bought the notion that man is the cause of everything evil and global warming. If only they knew that God made all the animals and told man to care for them as man is trusted as the manager of all the provisions from God and that we just ask us to be wise with common sense ? something that is lacking in today?s world where selfishness is the religion that leads to ignorant laws of the land in an attempt to control with unconditional measures.

The daffodils are in full bloom in the back yard and the ones in front are starting to open on the schedule that only God understands the working of such and the birds are singing outside as they fed in the orchard and from the feeders (deleted), hangs in the trees ? trees that are on schedule to their reproductive nature instilled by the Creator. The stars are held in their orbits at night as is the moon and the sun and since today is the Sabbath I shall rest in the care of our Heavenly Father and rejoice that He and He alone is One to be trusted no matter what transpires. Oh yes, there are tears of frustration and concerns ? when will this all come about as it is projected to start within a couple ? 6 weeks? Where will we go as once the papers are signed as we only have 90 days to move or will this drag on with the committee and an attorney and expenses that I don?t know how to pay for? What do we do now that our investment is destroyed by the planned economic status by both the state and federal governments for the good of the people? So I turn to Ps. 147:3 ?He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds?, Deut. 31:6 6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.? And Isaiah 41:10 ?10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.? Yes, there are many others. I choose to focus on the beauty of God?s character that I so long for and pray for abundant trust, faith, wisdom, health, strength and an abundant attitude of gratitude while relying on His promises and memorizing scripture to meditate on. The devil has so many schemes of untruth that he has blinded people with that I must rely on God and encourage others as we walk this valley of uncertainty and unfairness.

If the program after the land grab does not go forward, then they have accomplished the idling of acreage as planned that will be gang susceptible. But I choose to think there is still hope in stopping this project or rerouting it.

Our fore fathers chose ?In God We Trust? and as a citizen blessed with the privileges that resulted, the same must be the motive of each day.

May God lead each of us as we proceed with deep thanksgiving daily for bounty of His known and unknown blessings.

Whitney Houston 'An Angel,' Alicia Keys Sings At Funeral

Keys, who shared a mentor with Houston in Clive Davis, performs 'Send Me an Angel' during Saturday's funeral in New Jersey.

After a stormy 14-year marriage to bad-boy singer Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston decided to end that chapter in 2006. Three years later, Houston had aligned again with mentor Clive Davis, the music industry impresario who first discovered a teenage Whitney belting out tunes in a nightclub and signed her to his Arista Records. Their final collaboration, I Look to You, was set to launch her on a "comeback" trail.

Like so many young singers, Alicia Keys — also a Davis acolyte — had long looked up to Houston. But the gifted songwriter cemented her connection to Houston, who was found dead at 48 a week ago, by writing the album's hit single, "Million Dollar Bill."

On Saturday afternoon (February 18), Keys honored Houston in song once again, but instead of a dance-floor-filler, the "Unbreakable" singer took to the piano for an emotional farewell at New Jersey's New Hope Baptist Church. Keys, dressed in a dark suit, first happily recalled Houston as a "beautiful human being, [who would] call you for no reason at all but to say, 'Hi.' "

Keys, who co-wrote "Bill" with husband Swizz Beatz, said Houston also made it a habit to nurture the female singers who were following in her superstar footsteps. "She reached back to so many people; she reached back to me, to Monica and Brandy ... all these beautiful young artists, and just made us feel strong and capable and loved."

"So she's an angel to us, and has been an angel to us," Keys added before performing a moving "Send Me an Angel."

Keys wasn't the only singer to pay soulful tribute to the "How Will I Know" star. Stevie Wonder, R. Kelly and gospel greats BeBe & CeCe Winans, Donnie McClurkin and Kim Burrell were among the performers at Houston's Going-Home ceremony in Newark, where her "Bodyguard" co-star Kevin Costner delivered a heartbreaking eulogy.

Stay with MTVNews.com all day Saturday for continuing coverage of Whitney Houston's funeral services.
